Environmental Advisor - Antarctica New Zealand

Role purpose
To ensure best practice environmental management throughout the New Zealand Antarctic Programme.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Supporting the Operations and Infrastructure team to monitor and understand the environmental impacts of Scott Base activities
  • Providing advice on best practice environmental technologies and practices
  • Supporting our Environmental Impact Assessment obligations
  • Area Protection and Management planning
  • Enviro-Mark standard and CEMARS accreditation maintained
  • Contributing to Antarctic Treaty exchange of information
  • Contributing to our Zero Harm culture

To be successful you will need to have:

  • A Masters degree preferably in an environmental discipline with relevant experience
  • Strong organisational skills
  • A good understanding of relevant national and international Antarctic legislation
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of PC-based database systems
  • Auditing experience (ideally environmental)
  • Some previous Antarctic experience is preferable

This role may require periods of up to two months at a time to be spent in Antarctica. This will require the successful applicant to be certified as 'medically fit' for Antarctic employment by Antarctica New Zealand's Medical Assessor.
