Auckland Council is one of the largest in the South Pacific and our business is to help achieve the Mayor's vision of making Auckland the most liveable city in the world.
The Air, Land, Water and Coastal unit assists the council in fulfilling its statutory responsibilities for integrated management of natural and physical resources.
This is a unique opportunity to join Auckland Council's Coastal team. You would help develop solutions to existing and emerging concerns for the region's highly valued coastal environment. You will be part of a team passionately committed to sustainable coastal management, working closely with colleagues specialising in land, air and freshwater within the Unit and a wider multidisciplinary Environmental, Strategy and Policy Department.
In conjunction with the rest of the Coastal team you will provide specialist coastal management expertise and leadership in the development of integrated coastal strategy and policy to guide protection, enhancement and use of Auckland's coastal environment. You will also contribute to Council's strategy, policy and plans, complex resource consents and provide advice to external clients, customers and ratepayers.
The successful candidate will have:
- A tertiary qualification in environmental science, resource management, planning or other related field. Any qualification specialising in a coastal resource management issues will be highly regarded
- Minimum three years experience in environmental strategy or policy analysis/development
- Experience with legislative and regulatory frameworks, including particularly a sound understanding of the Resource Management Act and its application
- Experience within local or central government, particularly experience within New Zealand will be highly regarded
- Proven experience in coastal management issues, particularly in New Zealand and ideally in Auckland, and in development of management responses, plans and strategies to address these.
