Ranger, Fishery Field Operations - Department of Conservation

The Taupo-nui-a-Tia Area is seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated, practical and well organised person to fill the role of Ranger, Fishery Field Operations based at Turangi. If you are passionate about working in the outdoors, enjoy talking with anglers and are a keen trout angler yourself, then we would like to hear from you.

The focus of the position is fishery field delivery work, including compliance and law enforcement. Excellent team and general fieldwork skills are essential, as well as a proven ability to work unsupervised to achieve and complete work to high standards. You must have excellent leadership skills, sound computer and communication ability, and enjoy contributing to a busy and diverse working team.

The successful applicant must be:

  • experienced in working in the outdoors, with a practical aptitude
  • comfortable working in the areas of compliance and law enforcement, advocacy and public awareness
  • able to liaise and work with anglers, fishery stakeholders, tangata whenua (Ngati Tuwharetoa) and the general public
  • able to be a team leader, with the ability to supervise staff in the field
  • a competent boat handler
  • confident around water.

You must be able to work in remote locations and available to work some weekends and public holidays. This role also requires you to be away from home from time to time.

SCUBA diving experience is desirable.
