Each year hundreds of dolphins and whales strand on our shores. Without human help, these animals will suffer terribly and die. Knowing what to do and what not to do, can mean the difference between
life and death for these animals and successful rescue depends on
properly trained volunteers. Over the years Project Jonah has equipped
New Zealanders with the skills needed to rescue stranded dolphins and
whales. Through this dedicated network thousands of animals have been
saved. To become a marine mammal medic is simple. Our training course takes
just one day and costs $80 ($50 if you’re a student). We’ll share our
stories, expertise and knowledge with you, and will be there to guide
you every step of the way. Once trained, you’ll be added to our national stranding database, so
that when a stranding occurs, your lifesaving skills can be called
upon.
