Ranger, Biodiversity (Hunter) - Department of Conservation

We are seeking a highly motivated and suitably experienced person to fill the permanent role of Ranger, Biodiversity (Hunter), based out of our Havelock Field Centre. The successful applicant will be part of our two-person goat hunting team throughout targeted reserves within the Sounds Area.

The successful applicant will have:

  • an excellent level of physical fitness
  • a current firearms' licence and proven relevant experience in wild animal control
  • a well-trained and species-specific hunting dog (for goats)
  • a proven high standard of bush craft and back country navigation skills, including a good safety record
  • the ability to promote and maintain a co-operative team approach
  • the ability to stay away from home for up to 10-day periods
  • a Class 1 driver's licence.

A motor bike licence, current first aid certificate, boat master's qualification and boating experience would be beneficial.
