Ranger, Visitor & Historic Assets (Contract Supervisor & Icon Sites Ranger) – Department of Conservation

South Westland Weheka Area

Would you like to live in a World Heritage Area, with opportunities to work and play in some of New Zealand’s most pristine landscapes?

The South Westland Weheka Area is seeking a motivated person to assist in the delivery of its visitor assets programme. This is a permanent position based in Fox Glacier but will also require at least one day per week working from the Franz Josef Waiau Area Office, twenty minutes drive north of Fox Glacier. The role involves assisting the Area Managers in the South Westland Weheka and Franz Josef Waiau Areas to ensure that the Icon Sites - Franz Josef Glacier Ka Roimata o Hine Hukatere, Fox Glacier Te Moeka o Tuawe, Lake Matheson and Ship Creek Tauparikaka, are managed and maintained to meet visitor standards and expectations.

Experience in contract preparation, management and monitoring is essential. In addition you must have a good understanding of basic financial principles and have the ability to apply these within a business context to deliver meticulous, accurate and timely financial processing outcomes. The successful applicant will have some knowledge of the practicalities of construction and maintenance work relating to roads, car parks, amenity areas, tracks and structures. You will need excellent logistics and organisational skills and be able to work effectively either independently or in a team environment where you may be responsible to deliver positive results as the team leader. The position involves both office based tasks and field work, so the successful applicant will have excellent report writing and office skills as well as being physically fit with a love of the outdoors.

Applications must include a completed DOC Application for Employment form, a CV and evidence of the required capabilities as per the Role Description. A full driver’s licence is essential.
