Programme Manager, Iwi Support - Department of Conservation

An exciting opportunity to be at the leading edge of Crown/iwi community development is offered in this newly created position, due to impending Treaty of Waitangi settlements with iwi in the wider Gisborne, Opotiki and Whakatane area. This position is based in Whakatane.

We are seeking a bright motivated person who is committed to maintaining excellent communication with and between the Department and iwi, and to ensuring both parties can achieve their respective conservation aspirations. 

This senior role forms part of the Area Management Team and you will work closely with the Pou Kura Taiao to provide context and strategies to assist with managing iwi relationships. The successful applicant will also have responsibility for developing and overseeing Kaupapa Atawhai programmes for the Area. 

This is a demanding position for which patience, flexibility and initiative will be essential skills. The successful candidate will have a good understanding of tikanga Maori and be competent with Te Reo.
